Elf Swear Words
I have decided I kind of want to create a new elf swear word :O Idk why I thought of this just now. It might already be one *shrugs*... but...
Idek where this came from... lol
Fish eggs! I can see WolfFolk saying this as a derogatory reference to SeaFolk's kind of decorated style of life (if that makes sense). They would be like "that's fish eggs" meaning it's trivial or overly dainty or something. Because I think some WolfFolk might think of them like that. In the human world fish eggs are a delicacy too, which kind of ties in :O
"Stingtail spikes! How could this have happened?!" Stingtail spikes referring to the spike on a Stingray's tail. probably an exclaimation of anger or instinctive reaction...kinda how like if you get jabbed by one, you just react?
"Stingsoft head!" a Stingsoft being...well a jellyfish. obviously, a reference to someone who did something really, really stupid and has a head soft like a jellyfish
"by the Hi- Fish scat, scat, scat!" fish scat. obvious. XD
"He acts like a blasted firespine, how can i ever help him?" Firespine referring to an urchin..which i've heard can reeeally hurt. the term here means someone who keeps everyone else away with "spines", won't let anyone close.
"Daggerteeth take it!"
Coral head for Stone head/Rock skull
"Chomp it!" whales, big fish, shark and everything else under the waves usually chomp with authority. The equivalent of 'dang it!'
"Saltless" - basically gutless, cowardly, "he won't come into the deep bay, he's just saltless."
"Soft belly!" referring to someone who's a coward or afraid to do something.
"Your head is full of foam/sea foam." Talking about someone who's daydreaming or has a dumb idea.
"Fox heart" for someone who's a sneak or told a lie.
"You scared rabbit." or "Ran like a scared rabbit." Talking, again, about someone acting like a coward.
"Oh, go climb a tree!" a remark made in response to someone who won't leave you alone. Primarily used by the SeaFolk because the WolfFolk are known to climb trees.
"I swear by the fangs of my wolf!" for the WolfFolk to swear a binding oath on something very important (the fangs of their wolves).
"Sun blisters!" "Sand rash!" curse words probably used in situations of pain or frusteration
"Fine, you blasted gull! now leave me alone!" to call someone a gull is to imply they chatter incessantly and as annoyingly pestering as a seagull. could also be used to refer to someone who steals food.

Re: Elf Swear Words
a very good idea wolfy! Kai doesn't know much about elfquest, so having a list of words and such for her to reference would be great. and i fully support originality in this holt, so why NOT make a nice little dictonary for everyone to use? just do me a favor and put it in a nice orderly list in your first post, so future readers don't have to dig through a huge thread to learn stuff.
i like the fish eggs..XD i can image a cub sulking after getting in trouble and muttering "it's fish eggs...it wasn't a big deal..."
thank you Tidemist, she decided to go on a cursing spree...that or sending me her past cursings. XD

Re: Elf Swear Words
What was the elf word for sharks? Manyteeth? How about 'manyteeth take it!' as a local equivalent of 'trolls take it'?

Re: Elf Swear Words
"Daggerteeth take it!", then.
Hmmm... how about "Earthfire and groundquakes!" (similar to the exclamation "thunder and skyfire, and a reference to the volcano)

Re: Elf Swear Words
well that would work, but the volcano has long erroded away..not sure where it used to be...maybe ontop of the cliffs? but there isn't much left except maybe a bowl or something..groundquake is possible, if they have mountains in the distance then certainly a few times every millenia they'd have an earthshake.

Re: Elf Swear Words
>_> *Coral looks like he's actually frowning*
"I'll have you know that coral as a creature is a delicate, many splendored and highly useful thing!"
heheh.
"Chomp it!" whales, big fish, shark and everything else under the waves usually chomp with authority. The equivalent of 'dang it!'
"Saltless" - basically gutless, cowardly, "he won't come into the deep bay, he's just saltless."

Re: Elf Swear Words
hehehehe I can see where this is all gonna end lol.
Ohh, what about:
"Bloodfest" - a kind of crazy that people would be wary of, how sharks feed without regards to their surroundings or their own school. "When he lost his mate, he went into a bloodfest, we thought we'd lose him forever."

And the coral being hard thing... *dies in laughter*
I know none of you have really met Tern yet but he would probably think of some kind of dirty response tease/bug Coral if they end up being friends

Re: Elf Swear Words
Just a couple of idea:
"I'll gut you like a fish!" an equivalent to "I'm going to get you for that!" since the SeaFolk would gut fish before eating them.
"Oh, go climb a tree!" a remark made in response to someone who won't leave you alone. Primarily used by the SeaFolk because the WolfFolk are known to climb trees.
"You Daggerteeth!" (You shark!) an equivalent to "You jerk!" or "You meanie!"

More ideas:
"Soft belly!" referring to someone who's a coward or afraid to do something.
"Your head is full of foam/sea foam." Talking about someone who's daydreaming or has a dumb idea.
For WolfFolk:
"Fox heart" for someone who's a sneak or told a lie.
"You scared rabbit." or "Ran like a scared rabbit." Talking, again, about someone acting like a coward.

Re: Elf Swear Words
I don't remember if "go, climb a tree" was something cannonly said. I think Pike said that to one of the Gliders in volume 3.
